While Taveuni’s weather is idyllic year-round, rain does often make an appearance, accounting for a rich, lush jungle, specifically the beautiful Bouma National Heritage Park. The National Park makes up 1/3 of the island and hosts hiking trails, perfect for beginner and advanced hikers! One of the most famous spots in the park are the Tavoro Waterfalls – often referred to as the Bouma Waterfalls. Three waterfalls are situated in the park, the first of which is only a short, flat walk into the reserve. The other two are more secluded; therefore, tougher to access

Diving in Taveuni is an absolute must when visiting this beautiful island. One of the finest diving spots in all of Fiji is the Somosomo Strait, known for its diverse coral and over 1,500 species of fish. The Somosomo Strait is not for the inexperienced diver, however. The current is quite strong, so amateur divers are encouraged to explore the giant clams and bright corals at Waitabu Marine Park. For some serious eye candy, check out the Rainbow Reef, part of the popular Great White Wall, for the unusual soft coral reefs.

To experience the best of all worlds, a four to five-hour hike on the Lavena Coastal Walk is highly recommended! Take in the beautiful sands of Lavena Beach, jungle, remote villages and end at a cascading waterfall. Be sure to bring a swimsuit, though. To access the main waterfall pit (which is a must), you’ll have to swim a little.
