It’s not every day that you can hike in a lush forest within the city, but Panama City allows travelers to do just that. A trip to the Metropolitan Natural Park in the city’s Ancon District offers hiking paths, tons of wildlife and beautiful views – both city and lush greenery. The park is the only protected area in Central America that is actually located within city limits.

Well known to most, the Panama Canal is one of the most popular attractions in Panama City and is definitely worth the visit. This incredible feat of engineering is a waterway that connects the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. It’s a huge shipping and transport canal, so viewers can watch ships from all over the world pass from one side of the Americas to the other. Because of its 15-minute proximity to Panama City, the Miraflores Locks are the most visited, hosting an interactive visitor center and family-friendly observation decks!

While Panama City is known for its city vibe, a trip to “Old Town” (aka Casco Viejo) is essential. The charismatic, yet few, blocks in Panama City are home to eclectic, colorful buildings perched on cobblestone streets. Casco Viejo may be a bit crumbly, but it’s nothing short of hip. The area has some of the best restaurants in the city and even cooler bars. Try the Relic Bar, situated underground, right below the Luna Castle Hostel. Old Town is wrought with history, too, so a guided tour is encouraged!
